Magpie Aviation
May 2023 - November 2023
Magpie’s objective is to decarbonize aviation. The core technology enables zero-emission long range electric flight (+1000 miles) with today’s batteries through aerotowing and a clean sheet towplane design.
I got the opportunity to work on the next generation design Magpie’s core technology, the Active Hook system. Due to proprietary nature of my work, I am limited what I can share here. I am happy to share more with you in person or on a video call.

Senior Mechanical Engineer (May 2023 - November 2023)
Led mechanical design of next generation of Active Hook - an autonomous aero-mechanical tow device designed to fly at speeds above 200 kts and carry a payload aircraft load of 19,000 lbs while weigh less than 10 lbs.
Active Hook development required multidisciplinary skills including: complex mold design, silicone intensifier composite manufacturing, FEA, bearing selection, servo sizing, 3D printing, aerodynamics, and design of 5 axis CNC Aluminum and Titanium components.
Supported complex CAD and surfacing of initial design of clean sheet Part 23 fully electric tow airplane.
Using SolidWorks and open source mesh software, reverse engineered a Pipistrel Taurus motor glider using iPhone
3D scans and hand measurements to support a custom electric conversion.
Developed and documented internal processes for CAD best practices and implemented a cost effective and scalable
PDM solution.
